The team

Meet Rico, founder and head coach.

Rico, founder and head coach of 3rd Level Sports, crouching next to weight plates in the gym

I have been involved in sports all my life: martial arts, bodybuilding, fitness, CrossFit, wakeboarding and snowboarding. About 8 years ago I started helping people move and train, first with friends at my water sports business and with neighbours at home. Three years later I knew I wanted to do this properly. I started as a personal trainer at a professional gym and built my professional career from there.

Before that I worked in the corporate world, building teams and coaching people. At 3rd Level Sports I bring it all together: my coaching skills from the corporate world, my years of sport, and my own recovery from a herniated disc. Twice.

What I do best: I understand people. With my background in NLP and systemic work, I get to the core quickly: what is going on, and why is it hard? I make things simple. I feel and see at which level you are, and I take you on a journey at your own level and beyond.

  • Be seen. I saw myself, left my corporate career and chose my passion: helping people.
  • Your way. I became a personal trainer and brought my corporate coaching experience with me, to improve people's health and mindset.
  • Feel good. I found my purpose: helping more and more people feel better about themselves.
  • Go beyond. I overcame two herniated discs, climbed Kilimanjaro and opened my own gym. Now I help even more people choose their own path and pursue their purpose.

Questions

Before you book.

Why does the intake cost €20?

Your coach reserves a full hour for you and no one else. The small fee keeps that hour reserved for people who are serious about showing up. It is non-refundable and not credited to a membership.

Do I need to be fit already?

No. Most people who walk in have not trained consistently for a while. We start from where you are.

Will I be pushed to sign up?

No. You get an honest view of the options and what they cost. Take the time you need.

Do you speak English?

Yes. Our coaching and intakes are available in English and Dutch.

How big are the small groups?

Never more than 4 people per session, so your coach can see and correct you.

What should I bring?

Comfortable training clothes, indoor shoes, a towel and a bottle of water. Water, coffee and tea are free here, so you can always refill.

Is it easy to park near the studio?

Yes. You can park right by the door or nearby for about €2.75 per hour. Or park for free: the car park of the Albert Heijn XXL on the Elandstraat gives you 2 hours free. Walk out of the car park, turn left and walk about 150 metres until you see a church. We are diagonally across the street from the church, about a 3-minute walk.

How should I prepare for a session?

Whatever your level, make sure you have eaten something beforehand, so you have energy to train. Bring a bottle of water and a towel. We start at your level, so you do not need to prepare anything else.

Can I change and shower at the studio?

Yes. We have changing facilities and showers, so you can change and freshen up before or after your session. Plenty of members do.

Can I sit and work before or after my session?

Yes. We have a cosy lounge where you can enjoy a coffee or tea, with a direct view of the training floor. There is free Wi-Fi, so you can still get some work done.

Can anyone join 3rd Level Sports?

Not automatically, and that is why everyone starts with an intake. We want to make sure that you feel comfortable and safe in our environment, and that we can really help you and support you in reaching your goals.

How long does a training session last?

Every session lasts one full hour, which is more than enough. Each session follows a set structure: a calm warm-up to prevent injuries, then a mix of mobility, strength and cardio, so you get the best out of yourself.

What makes your training different?

It does not matter if you have limitations or injuries, if you are a top athlete, or if you are just starting with training. Our groups have a maximum of 4 members. Everyone follows the same type of programme, but we tailor it to each person: the same kind of exercises, at different intensities. That way everyone feels seen, trains in their own way, and finds out they can go further than they ever thought.
